The 290 wall plate is an aluminium support structure designed for installing structural glazing bar systems, such as the P227, P280 & P288.
It is typically installed at the ridge (top) of a roof slope, usually onto a wall or other suitable structure. Its straightforward design allows for positioning glazing bars at a pitch between 5° and 25°.
To secure the 290 wall plate to the wall, drill through the two locating grooves on the plate’s leg. The choice of fixings depends on the type of substrate. Install the fixings in a zigzag pattern: place a fixing in the top groove, then move 300mm along and fix in the lower groove. Repeat this pattern to form a ‘W’ shape with the screws. Ensure the first fixing is no more than 125mm from the edge of the wall plate.
When correctly installed, the 290 wall plate appears like a small letter ‘b’ when viewed from the side.
The base bar of the chosen glazing bar system is then attached to the 290 wall plate, and the glazing sheet is installed following the specific fixing instructions provided for each system.
End plates (Ref. 290EP) are available separately and can be attached to the ends of the 290 wall plate using the screws provided. The top of the finished glazing should be weatherproofed with lead or butyl flashing.
An eaves beam (Ref. 291) is also available for installation at the lower end of the roof.

P288 HEAVY DUTY SELF SUPPORTING GLAZING BAR FOR GLASS at 24MM & POLYCARBONATE SHEET AT 25MM
The P288 structural glazing bar system is a heavy duty two-part, 60mm wide medium span system designed for installing both multiwall and solid polycarbonate as well as glass. When installing glass units, you can span up to 2.6m with 600 centres. When installing up to 25mm multiwall polycarbonate sheet, you can span up to 4m with 1250mm centres. The P288 glazing bar system consists of a 60mm wide aluminium base bar complete with flat gaskets, a PVCu underclad that clips on to the base bar and a 60mm wide screw-on aluminium capping bar complete with flat gaskets. Please note that this glazing bar system does not include a mechanical end plate. The base bar should be fixed to its supports top, (middle and) bottom, the glazing faced up and the capping bar screwed on at intervals of no more than 400mm. Each bar should be finished by fitting an aluminium mechanical end plate. This glazing bar system is stocked as individual packs in white & anthracite grey (RAL7016) in a range of lengths. SELF SUPPORTING GLAZING BAR
A self supported glazing bar does not need to have any timber rafters to support them however, loading restrictions do apply. Self supporting glazing bars are ideal for glazing carports, lean to conservatory roofs, verandas and canopies. Don't forget your end caps - Click here. It is assumed that the buyer understands maximum glazing bar projections and glazing sheet widths. If you are unsure, we would ask that you call us on 01942 871183 for further clarification. The maximum projection for the self supporting glazing bar is 4000mm and the maximum width, when using polycarbonate sheet, is 1000mm. Where a sealed glass unit is being used, the maximum width is 800mm. Please note: these dimensions change dependent upon the pitch and projection of the required roof. A 60mm wide glazing bar, the P227 is ideal for installing, multiwall polycarbonate, solid polycarbonate and glass. It can be used in both rafter and self supporting roof environments. When glazing with multiwall polycarbonate, it can span upto 1.4m between fixing points. For longer roofs, we recommend the use of additional purlins to provide extra fixing points.
The P227 comes complete with a 60mm wide aluminium base bar with bubble gaskets and a push fit polycarbonate end plate.
The base bar should be fixed to its supports top, middle and bottom, the glazing faced up and the capping bar screwed into place. Plastic screw cover caps give a neat finish.
Each bar is completed with the use of the push-fit end plates. These are not suitable when installing glass and should be replaced with an aluminium mechanical end plate. Your glass supplier can give you advice regarding recommended glazing centres and spans.
This glazing bar system is stocked as individual packs in white, brown & anthracite grey (RAL7016) in a range of lengths.
Additional individual end plates are also available separately.
